For the next several days I will be posting about the World Congress of Families. This year it is being held in Sydney, Australia.  Remember how we helped to raise funds for Angela to attend? She is sending daily reports of the presentations, interviews she is able to have, and more. I am excited to share with you what she is experiencing. There are so many around the world - politicians, religious leaders, community organizers, trained professionals, and others - who are dedicated to defending the family. I will try to post each day's events in order so you are not reading them backwards as you scroll down. I have broken up Angela's summaries into several posts so it isn't overwhelming to see a HUGE post. Remember, if you have any questions you would like her to ask when she gives her interviews, leave them in the comments and I will pass them along to her.

General Conference Wall

We are looking forward to watching General Conference the first weekend in October. This year we are preparing our family to hear the words of the Prophet and Apostles speak to us by having two special family home evening lessons, printing off Apostle cards, and creating a General Conference Wall in our living room where our television is. We are lucky enough to stay home and watch General Conference so this activity is doable.

What is a General Conference wall? Well, first we have the tower from the Watchmen on the Tower family home evening lesson. Then we are going to put up topic sheets like the ones pictured below. I have printed out several copies of the photos of the Prophet and Apostles. During Conference, when we listen to them speak we will tape their picture under the topic of their talk. Some speakers cover more than one topic so we will have at least three copies of each picture to place under all the topics they speak about.

Each person will also have a General Conference Topic Candy sheet hanging on the wall. I just created a page with several topics listed. A piece (or 2) of small wrapped candy will be taped to each topic. At the end of each talk we will decide what the main topic was and everyone gets to eat a piece of candy that is taped next to that topic.

If you're interested in doing something similar for your family here's a pdf file that contains all the topic sheets, pictures of the Prophet and Apostles, and topic candy sheets that I created.
