For the next several days I will be posting about the World Congress of Families. This year it is being held in Sydney, Australia.  Remember how we helped to raise funds for Angela to attend? She is sending daily reports of the presentations, interviews she is able to have, and more. I am excited to share with you what she is experiencing. There are so many around the world - politicians, religious leaders, community organizers, trained professionals, and others - who are dedicated to defending the family. I will try to post each day's events in order so you are not reading them backwards as you scroll down. I have broken up Angela's summaries into several posts so it isn't overwhelming to see a HUGE post. Remember, if you have any questions you would like her to ask when she gives her interviews, leave them in the comments and I will pass them along to her.

Simple Pleasures: Autumn Edition I

Through the rest of October I will be posting some of my simple pleasures of autumn.

Provo Canyon

1. Beautiful fall colors - photo taken the end of September driving from Provo to Heber.

2. Pumpkin pie spice - I've been sprinkling it on my hot chocolate. Mmmm.

3. Crisp morning air. I feel like opening all the windows at 5 am to wake everyone up and fill the house with it. But instead I enjoy it by myself during my personal morning scripture study.

4. Crunchy, sour apples from my sister-in-law's tree. I LOVE sour apples!

5. Cemetery Hopping - While on our trip to Utah Mr. Ferrero Rocher found the graves of his great-grandparents unexpectedly while walking through the Salt Lake Cemetery waiting for me. That prompted a cemetery hopping excursion the next day. We traveled to the Provo Cemetery (photos above) to find his ancestor Ira Nathaniel Hinckley who Special Dark is named for. From there we drove up to Heber to find the graves of his grandparents, Royal Crook and Willmuth Witt Crook, as well as his other ancestors: Joseph Stacy Murdock, Minnie Lindsay Crook and Frederick Crook, and others in those lines. We also drove around Heber looking at landmarks or homes where his ancestors lived. Thanks to Mr. FR's Aunt Mary who had sent a document last year detailing all the places and why they were special to his family history. For those that live in Heber, Grandma's Drive-Thru is the home where Mr. FR's grandmother was born. Directly across Main Street from that is the home Mr. FR's great-grandparents, Fred and Minnie Crook, built and lived.

6. And, finally, Momzoo posted this quote on facebook yesterday. I couldn't resist making a printable of it, in three color options. Click on the print to open in a new window. Each is 8x10.

What are your simple pleasures this week?

  3. Thanks for the printables. Loved the cemetary hopping. We need to go to Payson one of these days and look for some of my ancestors grave sites.

  4. Mmmm...pumpkin pie anything is WONDERFUL! DQ finally has my pumpkin pie blizzard again! (the only one I will take my lactaid for!)

Autumn and Spring are both my favorite seasons for such different reasons.

  5. Any plans to send that quote to Pastor Jeffres? Perhaps put it on a billboard outside the next Southern Baptist Convention?

  6. Toby's middle name is Hinckley, because he was born the night President Hinckley died. Just sayin'.

Also, I LOVE Heber. I would move there in a heartbeat. My Nathaniel (husband) is a computer programmer though, so not much open in the way of that there. Bummer.

  7. I love autumn too! It is my favorite season. Thanks for the printable. C.S. Lewis was an amazing human being. My simple pleasure today was cuddling in my son's bed with him and having a conversation in which we felt the Spirit. Those moments make all the not so fun mom moments so worth it.

I had my paint chips all picked out and everything and forgot about it...And now I am to tired to think about it! I was so excited to use my brain to write something fun...I am going to read that post tomorrow and get re-motivated. :) How do you find the time for all your wonderfulness? I have poor time management skills...That is my excuse at least.

  8. One of my simple pleasures this time of year is the afternoon sunlight leading to sunset. This mixed with a light fall breeze and the smell of the air are distinctly October.

  9. That is a great quote. I think I need to PIN it right now! :) Thanks for sharing.

Put "eat chocolate" at the top of your list of things to do today. That way, at least you'll get one thing done. ☺ There, don't you feel better?

Please leave a comment! I enjoy hearing your thoughts, whether you agree with me or not. If we all agreed on everything how boring would that be? Worse than eating white chocolate, because it's fake. So be real, be yourself.
