We also love "Follow Me Boys". Another one the kids like is "The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band." All we watch is old movies...too much junk in most of the new movies.
ReplyDeleteWe always enjoyed watching Yours, Mine, and Ours- such a funny movie (we were a large military family too, though not that large). We also enjoy the old musicals- Oklahoma, Singing in the Rain, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, etc.
ReplyDeleteMy all time favorite is To Kill a Mockingbird, Robert Duvall doesn't speak one word in that film, but he communicates volumns with his expression, but, pretty much anything with Gregory Peck or Gary Cooper. Another favorite is Spencer's Mountain, and a more recent fav is Second Hand Lions. Old Movies are the BEST!!!

I also love The Bachelor and the Bobbysoxer with Cary Grant and Shirley Temple (when she's a teenager!). If your family likes musicals at all, I also love The Court Jester with Danny Kaye. Oh! And I love Roman Holiday! I'll stop there. :)

We also love the Danny Kaye movies Wonder Boy, Kid from Brooklyn, and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Then there's Singing in the Rain, Mr. Smith goes to Washington, The Quiet Man, McLintock!, Little Princess (Shirley Temple), The Pied Piper of Hamlin...I love love love old movies:)

Court Jester is a favorite. Our Bishop gave Follow Me, Boys to my husband when he was called as YM President. Musicals mentioned above are fun. I also like Calamity Jane, Holiday Inn, Swiss Family Robinson, Hello Dolly. We have more movies made before I was born than we have recent movies.

I can't believe no one has mentioned "Pollyanna"! It is a seriously life-changing movie. I also love all the old Hayley Mills classics, like the original "Parent Trap." For families with young boys, you can't go wrong with "Swiss Family Robinson," "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," and "Mysterious Island," the original '60s version. I also love anything with Carey Grant, but "Houseboat" with Sofia Loren is one of my favorites. Thanks for reminding me of all those great movies I need to dust off the shelves!
