For the next several days I will be posting about the World Congress of Families. This year it is being held in Sydney, Australia.  Remember how we helped to raise funds for Angela to attend? She is sending daily reports of the presentations, interviews she is able to have, and more. I am excited to share with you what she is experiencing. There are so many around the world - politicians, religious leaders, community organizers, trained professionals, and others - who are dedicated to defending the family. I will try to post each day's events in order so you are not reading them backwards as you scroll down. I have broken up Angela's summaries into several posts so it isn't overwhelming to see a HUGE post. Remember, if you have any questions you would like her to ask when she gives her interviews, leave them in the comments and I will pass them along to her.

The Necessities

It's a beautiful white, pogonip Sunday morning. I love those mornings when it is so cold outside the windows of the house fog up because of all the warmth inside. When the kids left for church it was a chilly -7 outside. Brrrrr! Little Ganache and Hershey aren't feeling very well so I stayed home from church with them.

I've spent the past couple of days rocking one or the other or both at the same time. Funny how when a child gets sick all they want is their mama. Right now I have a little respite as they are both on the piano bench pounding away and "singing." It's pretty cute!

Usually when sickness comes and things are slow I get a little impatient thinking about all the things I had planned to do but can't. Remembering avodah has really helped this time! The impatience I started to feel building up left when I focused on the here and now. In the brief moments when the littles were sleeping or content to lay on the couch occupied with other things I was able to actually do quite a bit - catch up on laundry, clean the laundry room, scrub my bathroom, clean up the kitchen, and even supervise Cookie (8) and Fudge (10) make chocolate chip cookies all by themselves. The basics that keep a household running.

Looking at my list of things that didn't get done I realize it is okay: the boys can survive a few more days with hair hanging over their ears, putting quotes in my scripture journal aren't as important as actually studying the scriptures, etc. I am content with what did get accomplished.

  2. Thanks for the reminder. My 6th son is such a mama's boy that I haven't scrubbed my bathroom recently, but I am still teaching my 5 year old to read & I can review & quiz Latin with my, now, GULP, 18 year old. I better throw dinner in the crock pot, since morning is my baby's happy time.

  3. -7? Really? I'm dying because we've dropped below 50 finally! I am trying to visualize you, really pregnant, in the rocker with two little people vying for space on what's left of your lap :) Spending time with those little people is never a bad thing. After reading this last night, I coaxed my "middles" downstairs for an intensive game of Blokus. We all had fun.

  4. I've got to work on being more content with what I get done each day. I love your perspective! With a new baby in the house I always start out feeling like I'll NEVER get anything done ever again! Time to just enjoy the snuggly baby and ignore the crazy household.

Put "eat chocolate" at the top of your list of things to do today. That way, at least you'll get one thing done. ☺ There, don't you feel better?

Please leave a comment! I enjoy hearing your thoughts, whether you agree with me or not. If we all agreed on everything how boring would that be? Worse than eating white chocolate, because it's fake. So be real, be yourself.
